White Futon Sofa Beds
Probably forty or fifty years ago if anyone mentioned futon beds the average person would not have had the first clue what futons were. Over the years futon beds became widely accepted and even fashionable and trendy for a variety of reasons. When they first entered the market place, futon frames were generally simply manufactured from metal or PVC. They were thought of as an inexpensive alternative to a sleeper sofa. At the time Castro Convertibles were all the rage but they were extremely expensive. Families with smaller budgets could easily afford futon sofa beds. Although they didn’t cost much the early models were often quite uncomfortable. Through the years designs and construction have evolved and today’s futon beds are often as luxurious and comfortable as those high priced alternatives.
Actually, there are high end futons that can be quite costly. Name brand designers have put a whole new face on a centuries old Japanese idea. Now futon beds and futon sofa beds may have a hardwood frame. Futons are not limited to convertibles either. Futon platform beds are an alternative to traditional platform beds the only difference being the mattress. Futon bed mattresses are no longer thin, cotton pads that afford no support or comfort while sleeping. In the past no one would want to sleep on a futon night after night. They were great for last minute company, or teenage sleepovers. Today, a futon mattress is often as plush and comfortable as an expensive Sealy mattress.
As a matter of fact, futon bed mattresses have become so cozy that many parents now buy futon bunk beds for their children’s bedrooms. At night the bottom bunk can be pulled out to form a full-sized bed or a queen-sized bed and during the day it can be folded back up to form a sofa. This is a great space saving feature when families don’t have the luxury of a spare room or area to use as a playroom or family room.
Another wonderful benefit to owning futon sofa beds is that futon mattress covers fit so much better than sofa covers fit a traditional sofa bed. Have you ever noticed that every time you get up from a sofa that has a protective sofa sheet or covering you need to tuck it in and readjust it? Fortunately there is no need for this with futon mattress covers. They are manufactured so that the mattress slips into the cover which is then zipped up to keep it securely in place. Futon mattress covers are designed from a variety of fabrics and come in many colors to match any décor. They can be easily removed for laundering and just as easily zipped back on.
If you haven’t checked out futon beds in the recent past you will be pleasantly surprised at the newer styles and construction. You no longer need to think of futon beds as extra sleeping space. They are comfortable and trendy, built to withstand everyday wear and tear. If furniture stores in your neighborhood don’t stock them, an online search will yield a multiple of sites where you can get an idea of what is out there. You’ll never look at futon beds the same way again.
